Sydney Addison Leroux is a name you should remember. She's a girl that's on her way to big things, a promising future that she is focusing on. She may only be nineteen years old on the 9th of february, but is already an athlete to watch out for. The girl works as an assistant coach for a youth soccer league, teaching a group of third graders the rules of the game.
There's no mistaking Syd when you see her, the lions' mane of hair guarantees that. She's known for the curly mess. Usually it's reigned in with some sort of plait or braid, but when it's not you'll surely know it. The girl considers herself rather average looking, just kind of brown everywhere -- skin, eyes, hair. She's got a simply normal appearance, and doesn't focus on it too much. Sydney is a total tomboy, you won't find her spending more than twenty minutes getting ready. Makeup and clothes are the least of her concerns.
personality.
+ determined.
Sydney just doesn't give up, on anything. She is incredibly tenacious and hardworking. Obtaining her goals is what she sets out to do, and more often than not she accomplishes what she wants. Not spoiled, Syd knows you've got to put in effort to get to the top.
+ clever .
Always with some idea up her sleeve, she is known for being cunning. Present her with a problem or an obstacle, and she will find a way around it. It may involve throwing a few people under the bus in the process, but whatever it takes. She is shrewd and sly, and she knows it. Sharp as a tack and being rather witty makes her skillful in avoiding sticky situations.
+/- ambitious .
Sydney is the one with ambition that knows no end. Getting in her way would not be good idea, she'll bowl over anyone and everyone who presents a threat to her end ideal. Very goal-oriented, she sets her mind to something and loves the satisfaction of achieving it. If that means stepping on a few people to get there, than so be it - Syd knows what she wants and will stop at nothing to get there.
+/- independent .
She is independent, in every sense of the word. Syd needs nothing and no one to get what she wants. She can do it all on her own and hates receiving any sort of help, seeing needing other people as a form of weakness. She is not influenced by the opinions of others and isn't one who enjoys being directed around, rather bossing around others than being told herself what to do. The girl thinks and acts for herself, and is definitely more of a leader than a follower.
+/- indifferent .
Sydney usually keeps to herself and minds her own business, and people return the favor. She chooses not to get involved with others, she doesn't really care unless something relates to her. Getting to know someone too well makes her uncomfortable, and she prefers the apathetic approach. Piss her off and she can be your worst enemy. However, Sydney can be reasonably pleasant around the right crowd, and is also a good ally to have. She is the gal to turn to as she will always make things happen. She has the initiative to start a motion and the follow through to make sure it gets done. It all depends on the situation.
+/- self-preserving .
Sydney is mentally tough and has a very strong will about her. She is intelligent and has a good head on her shoulders, being sensible and thinking things through before acting. She weighs all the possible options and thinks about how they may affect her. She puts herself first, which could be considered a bit self-centered , but you can only trust yourself at the end of the day. Syd will do what it takes to better herself, and only takes on things that will make her stronger.
- perfectionist .
Being the best drives this girl. She is determined to achieve her goals, and once she has her mind set on something, not much can stop her. Stubborn to a fault, you will not see her give up any time soon. She knows what she wants and she knows how to get it. It doesn't matter what it takes, she will do go to great lengths to make sure she is on top. Obtaining success is key for Sydney, she will not settle for anything less. Failure is not an option. Her entire life she's had the pressure to be the best, and it will either make you or break you.
- uptight .
Indeed, the adjective does her justice. Taking things seriously is what the girl does best and she always has to be in control of her emotions and very rarely loses that. There is always an end picture that she is working towards. Sydney is simply not one to cut loose or have fun, she doesn't let herself. If she cares about something, she won't do a half-arse job or screw around. Practical jokes aren't her cup of tea, and she'd rather be doing something productive than getting drunk at a party. She'll pass on the whole college experience, she's here to learn, not socialize.
- excessively prideful .
Hubris is another one of her faults, one she despises in others but sees in herself. She very simply has a very high opinion of herself, her dignity, status, and importance. Sydney is very proud of her abilities and achievements, to the point of appearing arrogant and cocky, and believes herself superior to others. Seeing herself in that light makes her forget about her flaws, though obviously there are many.
- blunt .
She is an incredibly straightforward person. Things are either black or white, right or wrong, good or evil - there's no in between. Sydney doesn't believe in complexities or fancy schemes. Why skirt around something when addressing it directly could accomplish things twice as fast? Blunt to the point of hurting others' feelings, politeness is something she consciously has to exercise when in good company, but for those she could really not give a toss about, she will tell them just what's on her mind.
history.
The Leroux family had all that they could ask for. A snug little family of four, house with a little white picket fence -- they were living the middle class dream. Sydney's parents, Joy and Daniel, hadn't always been like this. Neither of them came from much of a wealthy background, but they worked hard and earned their own way. Moving out of Seattle and into a suburb, they started a family. Not coming from much, the two wanted their own children to have the best opportunities possible. The expectations were high in their household, and Sydney's parents often would not accept anything but the best. It was not purposely that they put the pressure on Sydney and her elder brother Jordan. Their parents just cared a bit too much, if that's possible, and so desperately wanted the children to have a better life than they had had growing up.
The Leroux siblings were put into private school, and for a while things went well. At least, that's how it appeared on the surface. The two got good grades, interacted with kids their age, but beneath the mask Sydney and Jordan were struggling to keep up with the standards set for them. Eventually one of them had enough, and it wasn't Sydney. Come high school, Jordan started acting out. His grades slipped, he received detentions, and he fell into hanging out with the wrong crowd. It crushed their parents, but they had almost brought it upon themselves. The golden boy son had cracked under the pressure.
When it was time for Syd to enter high school, she knew she had to stay strong for her parents, and for herself. The one thing she wanted to do was prove that she was not going to be Jordan, she wouldn't turn out like her brother and mess up everything she had worked for. Those four years were all work and no play for the girl. Everything she did was centered around preparing for college. Getting all A's was good enough anymore, it had to be all A+'s. Student council, volunteer work, the list went on and on. Everyone thought she was perfect, yet why wasn't she happy?
What did bring her enjoyment was soccer. And to think she had been dragged to a practice by her brother, dreading going only to fall in love with the sport. Not only did she like it, but Sydney was good at it. Very good. By her first year in high school she had the most goals on the team and led them to a regional championship. College recruiters had already taken an eye to her when she was only fifteen, and all had big hopes for her future. As if pressure from her parents wasn't enough, now she had some of the biggest names in university coaches following her progress. But Sydney wanted this, and she wasn't about to let it all go.
Come graduation, she could boast a list of achievements, but no real friends. Syd didn't let it bother her. She was off to do bigger and better things. After several offers from colleges, the girl settled on Litton-Colwell, a smaller school that had an excellent program and she was practically guaranteed a starting position in the lineup for her first season. The coach promised big things, flaunting the idea of becoming a star. Sydney eagerly accepted and was off to San Francisco, away from the crushing presence of her parents but onto a bigger stage with possibly even more expectations to live up.
Sydney Leroux was not a disappointment, LCU soon found out. She kept her grades up, was a key player for the women's soccer team, and joined a sorority to boot. Was she all that personally interested in the ideals? No. But it would make her look better, and she was all for that. Syd settled on Alpha Beta Phi, and despite not being the number one sorority on campus, it embodied her hardworking and perfectionist spirit. The only problem was... you needed connections. Being at LCU almost completely by scholarship, Sydney lacked the rich families that most of the other girls head. Rather than admit she wasn't as well off and accept she was less than them, she lied. It had been unintentional at first, skirting questions as she pledged the sorority to help her get in. A few... stretches of the truth couldn't harm anything, could it? But it got out of hand. People think her father is a lawyer in Seattle, not recently laid-off and trying to pick up whatever work he could find. They think her mother is a socialite, not an insurance agent. However, Sydney was convincing. She kept her life as private as possible, making the necessary excuses about how her parents could never come to any of the events and such.
Hazing was the most embarrassing moment of her life, but Sydney survived, pretending to be like the privileged girls around her, most of whom hadn't worked a day in their life. She scrounged together enough money and looked the part to try not to raise any concerns. When you're one of the best soccer players LCU has seen in a while, people don't ask too many questions.
